Parish Plans are backed by the Countryside Agency and provide residents of rural parishes with a mechanism for influencing the development of their area.

At a meeting at Munsley WI Hall on 26th February, 2003, local residents discussed the usefulness of having a plan to cover the four parishes of Aytlon, Little Marcle, Munsley and Pixley.  At the end of the meeting, a majority felt that a plan would be worthwhile and a steering group was elected to take the plan forward.

This group has met regularly since then and has determined a number of methods by which the views of the local communities can be established. Displays were also erected at a number of local events to raise the profile of the Parish Plan.

The main consultation exercise so far is a questionnaire which has already been circulated to all individuals in the parish.  As well as a questionnaire for adults, there is a separate questionnaire for young people under the age of 16.  Over 50% of all questionnaires have been returned.

Over the coming months these questionnaires will be analysed to identify key areas of concern.

A meeting was also held to consult with older people in the parish.  This was poorly attended and demonstrated the practical difficulties of consulting a small, scattered population in a parish where the villages have no geographical centre.   Other meetings are planned to keep local residents up to date with developments and seek further feedback.
